whealyPost from the RX-8 board ...

I was cruisen my 8 down the freeway saturday nite when I saw a low slung pair of neon headlights comming up behind very fast. I thought it might be a vette. It then pulled up right next to me and we ran side by side. To my surprise it was a Dodge Prowler. !st time I saw one moving. What a good lookin car it is. We eyed each others ride and then played lane tag for awhile. We came long side again staying even for another good look at each other. Then I turned off on my exit. It was a good feeling to know my 8 fits into the exotic car realm and other high priced exotic vehicles take notice.

Here's the thread.

BeWareWhealy, the one post says that the RX8 will clean up a Prowler. From everything I have read the RX8 goes 0-60 anywhere from 6.0 to 6.6 and runs the qtr mile around 15 flat @ 92 mph. Are these figures accurate or close? The Prowler was reported to run 0-60 in 5.7 secs. I never checked mine 0-60 . However our Prowler when stock, ran the quarter in LA. at 14.9 @ 92 mph on a humid day. With gears in TX. I ran 14.7 @ 92 mph also on a humid night. Laddie whom is much more familiar with drag racing than I, told me in lower humidity I could probably run 14.2 or 14.3 with my gears so that means stock I could have possibly run 14.5 or 14.6. Doesn't sound like an RX8 could clean up on a Prowler to me. Not flaming you buddy, JMO

Just what I was thinking. No flames to the mazda board, Mazda makes really good cars. Before the prowler I had a 99 Miata, and I have to admit, it was the best car overall I have ever owned (and this takes into consideration BMWs, Benzes, Lexuses, etc.) No problems with that car ever, even with my crazy driving style (My BMW Z3 got a clutch replaced after 6 months!) I drove that car everywhere, even on long trips. Handling was awesome and precise. Really fun car and very durable, but let's face it, now I drive a prowler daily and its the best ever!!!!

OrangeHere it is, one mean looking Miata:

whealyBob,

Who can turn down that kind of offer? Maybe I could wear my new Viking hat you passed along (thanks again). Not because of the weather, but I just know those WI people would enjoy a Purple People Eater fan! We haven’t made plans for next year’s vacation, I’ll see what Christy has to say … but of course she does have the “advantage” of already spending an afternoon with you!

Rich,

I would imagine it would be a close heat if both were stock. Really no idea which would take it. The Mazda has pretty much the same horse power (238) for a similar weighted car, but way low on torque (150). I’ll see if I can get Wildcat to drag me! Of course most “8” owners are awaiting the aftermarket turbo or S/C to make a difference. So who knows? As long as you are enjoying your ride I don’t think it matters!

Orange,

Nice prior ride!

OrangeWhealy,

Thanks for the comment. Since the car was leased, I couldn't do much to it, but I did several minor things that made it stand out a lot from most other Miatas. Some people who say the car didn't even know it was a miata, they were used to seeing the miata as a "girlie" car.

The 16" rims in the pic (bought used for less than the price of the tires) was one of the items that really changed the appearance of the car. I bought them off a guy that used to have them on an older Toyota MR2 and didn't know how they would look installed, but the price was right and I took a chance.... In my opinion they were the PERFECT rims for a miata, better than anything else I've seen.

DR PROWLERWhealy....deep down you're really missing the Prowler, right!I see an odd RX8 drive by and it's a pretty cool machine...Will catch you next year at some event very probably!
